During the pilot episode, «Necklacegate 90210», of Bling Empire, Kelly Mi Li, 35, and her boyfriend, Andrew Gray, 33, went on a trip to Paris with Anna Shay, 60. Kelly and Anna shopped together while Andrew slept. After he awoke, he angrily called Kelly.
The call starts with confusion and quickly escalates to accusation. Andrew curses at Kelly and claims that her lack of effort in their relationship drives him crazy.
The phone call between them is on speaker phone and Anna looks exhausted as she listens to Andrew carry on.
Kelly calmly asks Andrew to clarify how she has shown a lack of effort. And he retorts that she should have told him she was going somewhere.
Kelly explains herself to Andrew and says that she believed letting him sleep was a better favor than waking him. It was her impression that he was suffering from jet lag and the fatigue had put him in a bad mood.
Andrew continues to scold and patronize Kelly on the phone.
He says, «Would you want me to do that to you? Yes or no?» At this, Anna advises Kelly not to respond to Andrew’s question.
Kelly continues to speak to Andrew in a calm manner. Yet, he continues his attempts to antagonize and control her. He demands once again, «I don’t want to hear anything but ‘yes’ or ‘no.'»
Kelly confusedly looks at Anna. They are both clearly shocked at Andrew’s rage.
He screams at Kelly again. «Yes or no? Keep it simple!»
Kelly tries to calm him but Andrew continues his tantrum. He claims that he treats Kelly better than she has treats him.
Anna is all of us as she cringes at Andrew’s behavior. He quickly hangs up the phone on Kelly.
What a sweet relief! Andrew took all of his stress with him.
Anna is the wise woman in this. She’s right to say that Andrew shouldn’t put his issues on Kelly but Kelly deserves a man who treats her better.
In the car, Kelly explains to Anna that her arguments with Andrew can last hours. He likes to be trapped in a room with her until they resolve their issue. And he persistently calls and texts her when he’s angry at her.
Later that night, Kelly and Andrew discuss further in their hotel room. She reiterates that she doesn’t believe that she did anything wrong to Andrew. (Yes, Kelly. Stand your ground. #unashamedlywoman)
Andrew admits, matter-of-factly, that he overreacted. He also says that he felt Kelly failed to honor their relationship when she left their hotel room without telling him.
Kelly requests an apology from Andrew and he tearfully complies. He says that he regrets raising his voice at Kelly. They both agree to continue learning to communicate with each other.
Although that wasn’t the first time Andrew was mean to Kelly, she decided to remain loyal.
Loquacious
